High School Teaching Positions for the 2016-17 School Year
Baxter Academy for Technology and Science is hiring teachers for its 2016-17 school year. We are a public charter school in downtown Portland, Maine, that opened September 2013. Currently we have over 300 students in grades 9-12 and are graduating our first senior class. We have a commitment to providing access to STEM education and are a project-based learning environment led by student inquiry and focused on a cross-disciplinary approach. Life Science Teacher (1.0 FTE) - Baxter seeks an innovative, creative, and adaptive science teacher with interest and experience in inquiry-based, problem-focused, and student-centered Science instruction. Immediate needs include biology (anatomy & physiology, biochemistry, genetics, and microbiology), along with chemistry. With the other Faculty, the candidate will be expected to develop relevant, interesting, and innovative curriculum. Dual training or endorsement (Life Science and Physical Science) and eligibility for Maine certification preferred. Flexibility with varying roles and assignments, plus an ability and eagerness to collaborate with other teachers (both inside and outside of the classroom) will be essential to success.
Mathematics Teacher (1.0 FTE) - Baxter seeks an innovative, creative, and adaptive math teacher with interest and experience in inquiry-based, problem-focused and student-centered Mathematics instruction. A proven ability to teach a variety of concepts and skills ranging from Numeracy through Statistics and Calculus is preferred. Flexibility with varying roles and assignments, plus an ability and eagerness to collaborate with other teachers, will be essential to success.
Humanities Teachers (2.0 FTE) - Baxter seeks innovative and dynamic humanities teachers who are comfortable collaborating across disciplines. The position requires creative, project-based teaching that fosters student-driven inquiry. Dual training or certification (English and Social Studies) preferred.
Ed Tech III - (1.0 FTE) - Will support special ed teachers and coordinator with preparation of classroom materials and class management functions; supervise small groups of students in project-based programs; conduct one-on-one or small groups with indirect professional supervision; provide input to completion and maintenance of individual observational child assessment; introduce new learning, pre-planned in collaboration with the special education teacher and coordinator; any other appropriate duties the Site/Director/Supervisor deems necessary involving students with IEPs.
